Asheville History Center present "The Raindrop Waltz" by Gary Carden

6 Mar 2015 - 7 Mar 2015

A concert-style reading of The Raindrop Waltz by Appalachian writer, story teller and folklorist, Gary Carden, is scheduled for two performances at Ferguson Auditorium on the campus of ABTech: Friday evening, March 6 at 7:30, and Saturday afternoon, March 7, at 2:30. Sponsored by the Asheville History Center and directed by Anita Chapman, this event complements the current exhibition at the Smith McDowell House: Hillbilly Land: Myth and Reality of Appalachian Culture. After the performances, the award-winning author will speak to the audience.

Centering around three generations of a Western North Carolina family, The Raindrop Waltz is a memory play. A young man tells of his father's death, his abandonment by his mother, and his life growing up with his grandparents.

The reading will feature guitarist Bill Pillmore, and local actors Rachel Adams, Kermit Brown, Marlene Earp, Gary Gaines, Thomas Trauger, Mike Vaniman, and Julian Vorus.
