Mountain Area Information Network

Buncombe County

In Buncombe, the service is available to all of downtown Asheville and to the surrounding area as far as 4-6 miles from the transmitter sites. Our transmitters are currently located on the Vanderbilt Building at 75 Haywood St, which broadcasts to the North and Northeast, and at the Self-Help Building to the South and West.

Anyone who can see a transmitter site (by eye, binoculars or telescope), and is within that site's broadcast region, will most likely be able to receive service even at extended distances of up to 15 miles.

MAIN is working to provide wireless Internet throughout the city of Asheville using an innovative wireless “mesh” technology. This network is currently operating in the following Neighborhoods:

  • Wall St.
  • Haywood Rd.
  • Montford
  • Mount Clare
  • Livingston St.

If you live in or near one of these neighborhoods, you might already have access to MAIN’s wireless Internet service. Visit the MAIN WiFi page to learn more.
