Ever since the Cuban Revolution and the resultant missile crisis that was a defining moment in diplomacy in the nuclear age, Cuba has had a strange relationship with the US. We have all seen the cartoons: Castro with a string of American Presidents: Eisenhower through Obama. Is now the time for a pivot in policy toward our island neighbor?
Jon Elliston is an Asheville-based writer and editor for Carolina Public Press and WNC Magazine, among other publications. He helped run a journalism exchange program between UNC-Chapel Hill and the University of Havana, and authored a study of the United States' propaganda war against revolutionary Cuba. His latest trip to Cuba was in November.
