The 8th grade honors symphonic band at Cane Creek Middle School, in Fletcher, NC, is one of four middle school bands in the country that has been chosen to play at the prestigious Carnegie Hall on April 19, 2014 at the National Band and Orchestra Festival, thanks to the leadership and direction of their band directors, Mr. Clif Dodson and Mr. Bryon Graeber. This prestigious honor bestowed upon Cane Creek is the first invitation of its kind for its students and marks the first known middle school band from the Western part of North Carolina to be selected.
In order to be selected for this national recognition the school had to submit recordings of previous band performances and a list of program accomplishments to an esteemed selection panel. When they perform in NYC they will be adjudicated by Frank Battisti of the New England Conservatory of Music, Craig Kirchoff, professor of conducting and director of university bands at the University of Minnesota, Charles Peltz, music director of the Glens Falls Symphony of New York, and H. Robert Reynolds, the principal conductor of the Wind Ensemble at the USC Thornton School of Music.
