Banned Books Week - Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank
8 Oct 2013
Banned Books Week Lecture with Nancy Lewis - Tuesday, October 8th at 7:00 at the Weaverville Library:
Anne Frank's "The Diary of a Young Girl" has sold millions of copies and has been translated into dozens of different languages, becoming the most widely read first person account of the Holocaust. It has also, however, according to the ALA, become "one of the most commonly banned and challenged books." Retired Professor of English and Weaverville resident Nancy Lewis will discuss how Anne Frank's "Diary" came to be written, how it was discovered, and why it is so frequently banned. She will also explore its literary value and the controversy that currently threatens to engulf it. Sponsored by the Weaverville Library Friends. For more information call the Library at 250-6482.
