Operation: Thank You- A 9/11 Community Project
11 Sep 2013
In 2009 congress named 9/11 a National Day of Service and Remembrance in an attempt to turn a tragedy into a triumph by encouraging communities to unite in service the same remarkable way that so many did following that tragic day in 2001. Now annually millions of people perform good deeds and engage in community service projects in observance of 9/11, including individuals and groups from all 50 states and 165 countries.
This year the Land-of-Sky Regional Council’s Volunteer Programs invites the public to join them in their 9/11 community project titled Operation: Thank You. Looking for a simple way to say thanks to our NC Troops they came up with Operation Thank You a military care-package drive. A simple project with a big impact Operation: Thank You is open to all ages. To get involved just drop off a requested comfort items on Wednesday, September 11th from 9am-1pm at their offices at 339 New Leicester Hwy, Suite 140 in Asheville. Requested items include: bar soap, stick deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, tubes of antibiotics, and Texas Pete Hot Sauce. Participants are encouraged to stay awhile and write a card of thanks and support. For more information please contact Patti Cameron, RSVP Coordinator at the Land-of-Sky Regional Council at 828-251-6622 or rsvp@landofsky.org
