USFS 15 year US Forest Plan Revision -
Tuesday March 12 @ 6PM
McDowell County is about 85% US Forest land. This Forest plan will be in effect for the next 15 years. USFS extraction's must be prohibited federally to prevent permits for fracking being issued by the USFS. Please send in your comments so that you will be heard. Prescribed burning has already begun in McDowell County that will adversely effect our health, water, air quality, tourism and Global Warming. See the link to the USFS below for more information. The FS is burning late at night so no one can see the smoke. However, the health effects from smoke are well documented if ignored by the Forest Service. Lowered IQs in infants, miscarriages, increased deaths from heart and lung disease to name a few.
A 25 page document written by a professional grant writer that shows flaws in the writing and fulfillment of the grant for this burn is being surpressed by the USFS. Burning our forests is simply another transfer of wealth from the 99% to the 1%, The grant writers profit from the burns themselves forming a conflict of interest. The requirement to include local representatives in decisions has not been honored. Benefits and costs have been misrepresented, ignored and exagerated. Citizens should attend the meeting on Tuesday, March 12 @ 6PM at the McDowell Technical College.
A Public hearing will be held on March 12 at McDowell Technical Community College, Room 113, 54 College Drive, Marion, NC 28752. Meeting will run from 6-9 p.m.
