Public Hearing for Progress Energy's proposed rate hikes

5 Mar 2013

The North Carolina Public Utilities Commission will be holding a public hearing in Asheville on March 5th. The Commissioners will be present to hear public comments on Progress Energy's request for a 14% rate hike for residential customers, and 9% for commercial and industrial users.

This potential hike in our electric bills is concerning many people from all walks of life. Hardest hit by the rate hikes will be seniors and people on fixed incomes, and low income rate payers. Small business owners
will also see their electricity bills go up.

All citizens are urged to come out and use this opportunity to voice their concerns to the Utility Commissioners, who will make the decision about granting the rate hike. The hearing will take place in the Buncombe County Courthouse, Courtroom #1 (basement level) at 7p.m. on Tuesday, March 5.
