Our goal is to advance international awareness and foster Western North Carolina's global ties. We are committed to:
- Promoting international awareness and global understanding among the people of Western North Carolina in order to encourage a more active and effective participation in national policy debates
- Providing a fall and spring World Affairs lecture series in Asheville, NC: guest lecturers of national and global repute, speaking on topics of current urgency in world affairs
- Providing a winter Great Decisions lecture series in four Western NC locations, affording an overview of issues such as:
° international terrorism
° regional conflicts
° health and environment
Asheville WAC programs take place at the Reuter Center, UNCA. Please note that attending any WAC lecture at the Reuter Center requires your attestation that you are vaccinated for COVID-19. Masks or face coverings are required to enter the Reuter Center.

We are an independent, non-profit, 501.c.3, organization. Membership dues do not cover expenses for guest speakers and we rely on contributions from members and friends. Click on Contributions to see how you can help.
We develop our programs in close cooperation with the UNCA Political Science Department and the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UNC Asheville. We also work with other like-minded Western NC and national organizations, including:
Through membership in the World Affairs Councils of America, we are actively involved with other councils in the region and the nation.
