Buncombe County commissioners heard recommendations Tuesday to extend the county's contract with Waste Pro.

Waste Pro is the only provider of trash services for unincorporated areas of the county. Its contract runs out in 2024, but there is an option for two, two-year extensions.

There are about 33,600 Waste Pro customers in Buncombe County. According to county officials, a communitywide survey conducted in late 2021 showed that 68% of respondents were very satisfied or satisfied with Waste Pro trash service.

Officials also said Buncombe County Solid Waste staff reviewed Waste Pro’s contract compliance as well as its activities and facilities and found that the trash hauler substantially complied with all terms, conditions and provisions.

The Environmental and Energy Stewardship Subcommittee also recommended a contract extension.

The board will vote on the extension at an upcoming meeting.
