Warrants identify victim in fatal Asheville shooting; teen suspect charged with murder

There are new details Friday morning after a fatal shooting in Asheville Thursday afternoon.
Arrest warrants confirm the victim, 37-year-old Justin Marshall Spry of Asheville, was shot multiple times Thursday afternoon on Reed Street near Biltmore Village and the Shiloh community.
He was rushed to Mission Hospital but died from his injuries.
Arrest warrants from the Asheville Police Department show 17-year-old Zamar Daequan Scott is in custody, charged with felony first-degree murder, felony attempted breaking and entering and misdemeanor possession of a handgun by a minor.
We tried to speak to Scott's mother who was in court Friday for her son's appearance, but she said she was too upset to speak with us.
Warrants indicate police think Scott was attempting to break into a home to steal marijuana.
Deputies were called to Reed Street at around 12:30 p.m., where they found Spry suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, and the search for the suspect began.
Officers quickly created a perimeter and identified a home where Hines was located. A spokesperson for the Asheville Police department says it took three hours of negotiation before Hines came outside.
"Crisis negotiators were called on scene where they engaged with the suspect verbally, and they were able to convince him to come out of the house where he was arrested without incident,” said Asheville Police Department spokesperson Jerri Jameson.
This is the second fatal shooting in Asheville in the last two weeks.
“In any community, one shooting is one shooting too much, so I'm not going to quantify or qualify the shootings that have happened in Asheville. They're all tragic. It impacts the families. It impacts the officers responding. It impacts the community as a whole,” Jameson said.
