One person struck, killed by vehicle on US-74 in Haywood County; Roadway reopened

TRAFFIC UPDATE: The road has reopened near Exit 102-A (Russ Ave).

Waynesville police report one person was struck and killed by a vehicle Saturday, causing a roadway on US-74 near Waynesville to close.

NCDOT sent out notification on March 28 saying a vehicle crash happened at approximately 4:19 p.m. and is expected to end at approximately 7:30 p.m.

Chief Adams with the Waynesville Police Department told News 13 David Robinson, 62, of Haywood County, was struck on the roadway by a vehicle.

Chief Adams said witnesses told officers the victim jumped out of the car at the exit, and was then hit by a vehicle.

US-74 Eastbound in Haywood County, near Exit 102-A (Russ Ave) at mile marker 102 is closed, according to NCDOT.

DETOUR:

  1. Motorists are advised to take Exit 102-B (US-276) to US-19.
  2. Continue on US-276 and then turn right onto US-19 to re-access US-74.

Officers are working to locate the victim's partner at this time. No charges have been filed as of this time.
