Motorcycle driver dies after weekend crash on Patton Avenue in Asheville

An Asheville man has died from his injuries sustained in a horrible crash Sunday, Oct. 13, 2019, on Patton Avenue.

Authorities say at approximately 10:37 a.m. the Asheville Police Department responded to the 1400 block of Patton Avenue after reports of a crash involving a sedan and motorcycle.

Upon arrival officers located the driver of the motorcycle, Mark Evans Smith, 29, of Asheville, suffering from life threatening injuries. Smith was transported to Mission Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Authorities on scene told News 13 the vehicle turned in front of the motorcycle.

Traffic in the area was detoured around the crash scene, near Sky Lanes Bowling Center, until around 12:45 p.m.

The crash is under investigation by the Asheville Police Department's Traffic Safety Unit.
