Man shot in Asheville following argument at grocery store

Update: SUSPECT ARRESTED HOURS AFTER ALLEGEDLY SHOOTING MAN FOLLOWING ARGUMENT AT GROCERY STORE

A man was shot Sunday afternoon, May 5, following an argument at a grocery store in Asheville, police said, and the suspect is still at large.

According to an Asheville Police Department officer, two males got into an argument at the H&B Grocery store located on State Street.

The victim, a 35-year-old male, walked down towards Pisgah View Apartments and the other person involved in the argument drove off.

POLICE IDENTIFY VICTIM IN DEADLY SHOOTING, SAY SUSPECT AND VICTIM KNEW EACH OTHER

The suspect drove down towards Pisgah View as well, and police said according to witnesses, around 3:15 p.m., the suspect waited for the victim to walk almost to Pisgah View where the suspect was waiting, then he exited the vehicle, shot the victim, got back in his vehicle and drove away.

Police said the victim was shot in the abdomen area, and he was listed in stable but serious condition.

It is unknown whether the two are known to each other.

An investigation is underway but at this time, police do not have any identifying information about the suspect, as they are seeking nearby surveillance video to get a better look at the vehicle and suspect.

Police said there is no threat to the public at this time, as this was a targeted shooting.
