Interstate 26 in Polk County has reopened after being closed for several hours overnight because of a wreck.

Authorities said multiple vehicles and at least four 18-wheelers were involved in the chain-reaction crash at the top of Saluda Grade.

Authorities said a tractor-trailer jackknifed at the top of the grade and two vehicles rear-ended while trying to stop. Two other vehicles slid in the spilled diesel fuel before coming to a stop. Another tractor-trailer could not stop and pushed the last two vehicles into the jack-knife and went over the mountain. Two other tractor-trailers were also, involved, authorities said.

Two people were transported to the hospital, authorities said.

The wreck happened about 5:10 p.m. near Exit 67 (U.S. 74), closing the interstate in both directions for a time.
