Next MTA Meeting @ Carowinds
MTA will meet on June 26 at 5:30 pm at Carowinds in the Hospitality Room. Members should
RSVP by 5:00pm on June 20 by calling Mike Hamrick at 587-9023. Each organization is
eligible for two tickets only. Individual members one ticket. You can pick up tickets
starting at 10:00am at the Guest Services Window The program will concentrate on the
election of new officers and a roundtable discussion of MTA plans for next year. MTA has
spent part of the last year in an introspective look at itself and its mission. It only
seems fitting that we end the year with a summation of where we've been with this process
and a look forward to what lies ahead for MTA and its members. Toward this end we will not
have a special guest for this meeting but will, like at our first meeting this year at
Theatre Charlotte, make the members the special guests. Come prepared to discuss and
implement these ideas. Let next year's Executive Committee hear from you as they begin to
put together MTA's next season of meetings and projects.
Here's a big MTA "thank you" to Charlotte Rep for hosting the March meeting. We
would also like to say thank you to David zum Brunnen for being our guest. The NCTC
"Celebrate Theatre" discussion was very lively. A special thank you to Sara
Spencer of the Charlotte City Council for sharing her time and expertise with us.
The funding controversy over the Arts and Science Council will not go away any time soon.
Supporters of the "cut the funds' forces are already lobbying City Council to cut
their contribution. At this point, MTA as an organization has not taken a public stand on
this issue. Should MTA make a formal statement on this issue? Come to the June meeting and
let your voice be heard. We need your support to take action in your name.
MTA sends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Bill Rackley. Bill
unexpectedly passed away May 22. His creativity, strong leadership and gentle humor will
be greatly missed by the theatre community he so strongly supported.
It's that time again. That's right, election time has rolled around again. Dorothy Waterfill and Gay Howard have graciously agreed to serve as our Nominations Committee. Below you will find a nominations form for your convenience. Cut it out and send it toDorothy at the address on the form. Nominate yourself! Nominate a friend! All nominations are confidential. Get them in by June 20th or bring them to the June 26th meeting at Carowinds and make nominations from the floor.
Got an idea for future programs for MTA meetings? Pass them on to any member of the executive committee. As soon as the election is over, the new board will begin planning next year's meeting schedule. The better the guests, the better the meeting. So get your ideas in now.
Would your theatre be willing to host an MTA meeting next year? Let one of the ExCom
members know. Let your theatre shine for your peers. Volunteer to host an MTA meeting.
The MTA Marketing Committee is busy trying to find funds to create the MTA Theatre Directory approved at the last meeting. If you have any suggestions or contacts with funding resources, printers, etc. that can help make the directory a reality, contact Dorothy Waterfill or Tom Hollis.
Send in your season information as soon as it's finalized. Remember send one copy to Keith Martin for inclusion in the data base to help avoid production duplication and send a second copy to Tom Hollis for the Callboard master calendar and the website.
A common question, with a complicated answer. MTA's fiscal year starts July 1. Officially that's when your dues are due. Many groups and individuals join at different times of the year. When is my renewal due? The EXCOM has heard proposals from several sources on this matter. Come to the June meeting and let us know what you think.
The MTA Script Library is moving from Ginger Heath's home to CPCC Theatre. Got any extra scripts from past productions? Send them to Tom Hollis or Tom Vance at CPCC. Policy on check out procedure are still being developed. Drop by next month and peruse the collection. It's one of the perks of membership.
You may have seen members of the arts community sporting small shiny mirrors on their
lapels in recent weeks. These "reflection" buttons are being distributed by our
own Ginger Heath and C Jane as a means of making people more aware of "All arts. All
Voices. Everywhere!" If you would like to distribute them to your organization
contact Ginger or C Jane about supplies to make buttons. Expenses are being paid for by
donations. See your membership list for contact phone numbers.

Dear Tom, I wanted to wrtie and thank you for your kind hospitality at the most recent MTA meeting in Charlotte. You were most gracious in handling the NCTC aspect of the gathering and the discussion was quite informative. These NCTC-sponsored discussions have been extremely valuable to the organization, and the Charlotte meeting was certainly no exception. Once again, thanks for having me. It was truly a pleasure to attend my first MTA meeting and I look forward to getting to another one soon. Best Wishes, David zum Brunnen Executive Director
