DESCRIPTION: A medium-sized shrub or small tree with
furry tiny flower clusters of the same sex. The
leaves are 2 - 4" and oblong or lanceolate with a
whitish cast underneath. The male flowers are the
showiest, with yellow stamens; the female looks
much the same only greenish. Each appears on
separate plants.
FLOWERS: February to May
HABITAT: Stream banks, moist thickets, and even
swamps.
