Uploading Webpages with the Netscape Composer "Publish" feature

Windows Publishing with Netscape Composer

Open up the webpage (file) that you want to publish to your MAIN webspace with Netscape Composer

Click the "Publish" button in the toolbar.

Type the page's title.

Your page's title appears at the top of your visitor's browser window, right next to the name of the program (such as Internet Explorer or Netscape).

Type in the file name you would like the file to be called on our server. If it is your "homepage", or the first page you would like visitors to see in your site, name it "index.html"

Type in the location (URI) and path name that you would like to upload your pages to. We suggest using the "ftp" method listed below:

If you are a MAIN dial-in customer, please enter:
ftp://your_county_name.main.nc.us/home/username/public_html/
replacing your_county_name.main.nc.us with the county you have MAIN service in, such as "buncombe.main.nc.us", and username with your username (usually your email address before the @ symbol).
If you are a Non-profit uploading to a dedicated directory, please enter:
ftp://main.nc.us/home/httpd/html/Directory_Name
Replacing the Directory_Name with your dedicated directory's name from your user reference sheet.
If you are uploading to a Virtual Domain (www.my_organization.com), please enter:
ftp://main.nc.us/home/httpd/html/Directory_Name
Replacing the Directory_Name with your directory name from your user reference sheet.

Type in the username as it appears on your user reference sheet. Usernames are usually your email address before the @ symbol.

Type the password for your username. MAIN's passwords are case sensitive.

Choose the files that you would like to upload with your webpage. All graphics that are included in your webpage must be uploaded with the webpage in order for them to appear on your website.

Click OK to upload your webpage to the web.

To view your website, switch to the Netscape Browser and type into the location field:

If you have a MAIN dial-in account: http://your_county_name.main.nc.us/~username replacing your_county_name.main.nc.us with the county you have MAIN service in, such as "buncombe.main.nc.us", and your username with your username.
If you have a domain name, simply http://www.your_domain.com.
IF you have a dedicated directory, http://main.nc.us/your_directory name.

MacOS Publishing with Netscape Composer "Publish" feature.
