No evidence of missing man found after extensive search in Spivey Mountain area

Authorities say the search for a man who's been missing from the Asheville area for several months yielded no results on Monday.

A release from the Buncombe County Sheriff's Office says numerous agencies searched the Spivey Mountain area all day April 29 for 27-year-old Gabriel "Gabe" Thor Crow, who was reported missing in January.

POLICE ASK PUBLIC TO AVOID SPIVEY MOUNTAIN AREA DURING ACTIVE SEARCH FOR MISSING MAN

A previous release from the Asheville Police Department (APD) said investigators had gathered recent information that suggested Crow "may be in the vicinity of Spivey Mountain."

“More than 120 personnel worked from 10 a.m. until after 5 p.m. yesterday during this coordinated grid search," Captain Dustan Auldredge of the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office said in Tuesday's press release. "Unfortunately, we did not locate any evidence to lead us to Mr. Crow. We appreciate the public’s cooperation in remaining out of these areas during the search. The Investigation into Gabriel Crow’s disappearance is still ongoing by the Asheville Police Department.”

Crow was last seen on Jan. 25, 2024 on Smokey Park Highway. He is described as a Native American male, 5 feet 11 inches tall, around 170 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing dark-colored jeans and a black jacket.

Alongside APD and the sheriff's office, numerous other local agencies assisted in Monday's, searching, including: West Buncombe Fire, Fairview Fire, Reems Creek Fire, Broad River Fire, French Broad Fire, Skyland Fire, Buncombe County Rescue Squad, Buncombe County Emergency Services, Buncombe County Emergency Management, Buncombe County Fire Marshals Office, NC Emergency Management, Asheville Fire Department, NCTF2 Urban Search and Rescue, Mountain Rescue Team 3, Cherokee Tribal Police and Fire, Weaverville Fire Department, NC State Bureau of Investigations
