Mid Atlantic Duathlon Championships
The Mid Atlantic Duathlon Championships were held Sunday 07/27/03 in Salisbury, NC.
The race consisted of a 5k run/22 mile bike/5k run.
The top three in each Age Group are eligible to compete in Nationals in Nashville in October.
Just think, a whole subculture of folks who wander around the country side doing nothing but Duathlons.
At any rate, the course was very hot and humid.
Typical North Carolina in High Summer.
Janet won her AG 40-44 with two very fine runs.
I was 3rd in My AG 55-59, with one of the best bike splits I have had in years.
The duathlon crowd are very fast runners.
We got to meet athletes from all over the country.
Pennsylvania had a fairly large group here.
I have decided that the swim is a necessary part of my emotional well being in these things.
Chasing a bunch of sub 20 minute 5k guys on the bike leg is darn painful.
What is particularly scary is these folks also run the second 5k fast.
When one is in sight of the finish line and goes from 1st to 3rd in less than 100 yards,
any ego one may have is quickly relegated to a much lower level.
