The Carolina Farm Stewardship Association (CFSA) is celebrating its 20^th anniversary this year at its 17^th Annual Sustainable Agriculture Conference at the Broyhill Inn and Convention Center on the campus of Appalachian State University in Boone, NC on November 15-17, 2002. CFSA is a membership-based organization of more than 600 farmers, processors, gardeners, businesses, organizations and individuals in North and South Carolina who are committed to creating a sustainable agricultural system through the development and promotion of local and organic farms and distribution systems. "Sustainable agriculture is providing real solutions to our current environmental and agricultural problems", says Tony Kleese, Executive Director of CFSA, "and this conference is a celebration of all of the progress we have made in the past 20 years and the positive vision we have for the future."

This year’s conference will feature speakers from across the country and region. Elizabeth Henderson, agricultural activist and author will give the keynote address, which will focus on the key components of developing a local and organic food system During the 3 day event, there will be 55 workshops on a wide variety of topics from organic Christmas tree production, to medicinal herbs, to sustainable livestock management, to the politics of food, and much more. In addition there will be a fascinating Children’s Program, poster sessions, exhibitors, silent auction, seed and plant exchange, and local/organic food at all meals. The conference has something of interest for all ages and skill levels, from professional grower to backyard gardener to consumer.

Conference fees range from $100 for students to $210 for non-CFSA members. Fees cover conference attendance and all meals. Lodging is not included. Scholarships and work exchanges are available.
