College news: Area students named to dean's list, presidents lists

Bob Jones University 

The following students are among approximately 550 Bob Jones University students named to the president's list for high academic achievement during the fall 2018 semester.

To qualify for the president's list, students must earn a 3.75 or higher grade point average for the semester.

--Jessica Baun, a senior health sciences major of Flat Rock.

--Jaazaniah Cofer, a freshman sport management major of Brevard.

--Nathan Herbster, a freshman bible major of Brevard.

--Sarah Herbster, a sophomore composite social studies education major of Brevard.

The following students are among approximately 900 students named to the dean's list for high academic achievement during the fall 2018 semester. To qualify for the dean's list, students must earn a 3.0-3.74 grade point average for the semester.

--Joseph Bott, a sophomore interior architecture and design major from Brevard.

--Lindsey Bott, a senior graphic design major from Brevard.

--Rachel Bright, a freshman nursing major from Hendersonville.

--James Cochran, a senior composite social studies education major from Mill Spring.

--Philip Frady, a senior business administration major from Brevard.

Gardner-Webb

Two local students were among the 230 students from Gardner-Webb University who recently received degrees during fall commencement exercises held Dec. 15:

--Amber Wheeler, Hendersonville, BSN, nursing

Several area students also made the dean's list and honor during the 2018 fall semester at Gardner-Webb University.

The dean’s List honors outstanding full-time, undergraduate students who maintain a GPA of 3.7 or above. This recognition is the highest academic honor of the semester. The honor roll recognizes outstanding full-time undergraduate students who achieve a grade point average of 3.2 to 3.7 through noteworthy academic success during the semester.

The following Carson-Newman University students made dean's list for the fall 2018 semester.

The University, located in Johnson City, Tenn., awards Dean's List honors to students earning a grade point average of 3.5 or higher while taking 12 or more credit hours.

Grove City College

Micah Haack, a sophomore electrical engineering major at Grove City College, has been named to the dean's list with distinction for the Fall 2018 semester.

Haack is a 2017 graduate of North Carolina School Science and Math and is the son of David and Tricia Haack (Tricia) from Hendersonville.

Students eligible for the dean's list have a GPA of 3.40 to 3.59; for the dean's list with distinction a GPA of 3.60 to 3.84 and for the dean's list with high distinction a GPA of 3.85 to 4.0. 

Presbyterian College

The dean’s list at Presbyterian College, at Clinton, S.C., is composed of students who have earned between a 3.3 and a 3.9 grade point average.

Jonnie Leigh Petree and Katherine Scott Russell, both of Hendersonville, made the dean’s list during the fall 2018 semester. 

Maryville College

Local students have made the Dean's List for the fall 2018 semester at Maryville College in Tennessee.

Clemson University 

Local residents were among students who graduated in December from Clemson University:

--Mason A. Galloway of Brevard, who graduated with a bachelor of science in industrial engineering .

--Hannah H. Coker of Hendersonville, who graduated with a bachelor of science in pre-professional studies .

--Brian A. Ritter of Hendersonville, who graduated with a doctorate in forest resources.

--Harley Todd Lattimore of Rutherfordton, who graduated with a bachelor of science in agribusiness.

North Georgia

Zak James Smarjesse of Fletcher, made the fall 2018 dean's list at the University of North Georgia for achieving at least a 3.5 grade point average, carrying 12 or more credit hours in one semester and having no grade lower than B.
