PAUPACK TWP. - Now that the board of supervisors in Paupack Township adopted resolution 2016-34 at the January meeting, the newly formed Lakeville Food Pantry Inc. will receive foods from a warehouse in Allentown. As a nonprofit organization, because the foods are from the warehouse the selection of foods has increased,  Supervisor Chairman Bruce Chandler said.

The number of families that visit the pantry each month varies, said Chandler, but there are between 110 to 140 families depending on the time of year. The number of families has been growing. Funds generated from the township metal bin has expanded the amount of food purchased for the pantry. At one point, Chandler said, a child expressed surprise that the family received eggs. He commented that this “puts tears in your eyes” as people overlook the “simple things in life” that actually make a big difference. The donations and volunteers, he added, are a blessing.

Lake’s “Industrial Park”

  • This year, as well as past the board voted to give $10,000 to the Lake Wallenpaupack Watershed Management District. Chandler said there is “exceptional quality” water in the area and as the population has increased, the practice to maintain the water has continued. Supervisor Tom Oakley calls Lake Wallenpaupack “Paupack Township’s industrial park.”    • For 2015 the Lakeville Volunteer Fire Department responded to 150 calls: three chimney fires, 24 mutual aid, 42 motor vehicle accidents, 30 auto alarms, 14 brush fires, 10 town trees, 4 carbon dioxide alarms, 7 structure fires, 5 emergency medical service assistance, 7 investigations and 2 car fires.
  • David Miller was appointed to fill a vacancy on the Paupack Township Planning Commission.
  • Beth Vail was appointed to fill an alternate seat on the Paupack Township Planning Commission.
  • The board adopted ACT 44 of the township’s disclosure statement for the township pension plan that is required by the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors (PSATS).
  • The Lakeville Volunteer Fire Department has received approval to host events and fundraisers during the 2016 year.  Chandler said is this is a “formality” to cover workman’s compensation.
  • In December 2015, the ambulance service received 40 calls, most of which were within Paupack Township.
  • Due to an abundance of paperwork, the board voted to hire a part-time assistant secretary for the planning commission.
  •  Under building and zoning, there were five permits: one house, one addition, one shed and two decks for the same project.
  •  The township’s new truck is in service. Chandler reported that it has been used to haul anti-ski and the supervisors are “pleased with it.”

The next Paupack Township Supervisors’ meeting will be Thursday, February 11 at 6:30 p.m. The offices are along Daniels Road, just off Route 590 in Lakeville.
