Ability Fair to be held at WCC Oct. 21

FORT POLK, La. –– In honor of employees, Family members, Soldiers and veterans with disabilities, Fort Polk’s Equal Opportunity Office hosts an Ability Fair at the Warrior Community Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 21.

This event is open to the public and everyone is encouraged to invite their friends and family members in the community. The opening ceremony is held at 10 a.m. with keynote speaker retired Sgt. 1st Class Chad Williams, a wounded warrior currently working at the Joint Readiness Training Center and Fort Polk G8 office. October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month.

Special guests include the Louisiana Assistive Technology Access Network, or LATAN, Brothers and Sisters in Arms Dog Training, The Louisiana Center for the Blind, Fort Polk Fire Department, the U.S. Army Medical Command, Industrial Hygiene Office, the Disabled American Veterans, the Veteran's Administration Community Based Outreach Clinic, Occupational Therapy, Exceptional Family Member Program, Bayne-Jones Army Community Hospital Behavioral Health and Occupational Therapy, and the Employee Assistance Program.

LATAN will have a variety of assistive devices on display that help with computer access, vision, hearing, speech communication, daily living, home automation and mobility.
