GOP taps former NASCAR driver Robert Pressley for county election

Nonprofit agencies will make their case for funding from Buncombe County's upcoming budget for Fiscal Year 2018. A total of 46 nonprofits are asking for an aggregate of almost $11 million.

Lifelong Buncombe County resident, and former NASCAR driver, Robert Pressley will run for a seat on the Buncombe County Board of Commissioners. The District Three seat will have a two-year term and became available when Miranda DeBruhl suddenly stepped down from the Board in May.

In the interim Tim Moffitt, a former member of the North Carolina House of Representatives, has been appointed to the seat.

Nathan West, chair of the Buncombe County GOP, says he’s excited to have Pressley on November’s ballot. “He’s done a lot of good in the community over the years. We look forward to having him on board. He’s a very intelligent person.”

Pressley has not previously been an elected official, but West says he has served on NASCAR boards and is familiar with meeting procedures. “He has the best interest of Buncombe County in mind. He said he doesn’t want to do what’s right for one group of people, he wants to do what’s right for the entire county.”

Pressley also owns Celebrity’s Hotdogs on Brevard Road.

West says Pressley was unanimously approved by GOP leadership and no other candidates were considered.

Pressley will face David King in the November election. The Buncombe County GOP still needs to select a candidate to run for Chair of the Board, another opportunity left by DeBruhl’s departure, and they have until 75 days before the election to make a decision.

NASCAR and hot dogs- for running for the GOP, you sir, are overqualified and therefore hired.

    • Lulz

Pressley actually did something and runs a business. What do you do or have ever done? Actually ran a payroll somewhere? Let me answer that, probably not. But you’re so much better like let’s say the Aryans were to the rest in old timey Germany. Probably would send the likes of Pressley to the gas chambers too.

Ooooh, he runs a business! I think that’s what the ancient Greeks considered the pinnacle of class and ability to govern in a democracy. Government is not a business, nor should it be treated like one. Human lives are not a business.

Hot dogs and NASCAR. Zero political experience to boot.

Again, hot dogs and NASCAR. Let those qualifications roll off the tongue after saying them out loud.

No, I suppose for being my own self employed boss for the past 10 years makes me guilty of not doing anything. You win.

Nazi Germany comparison? Geez, dude. They were as far right fascist as they came. The GOP should know, for Prescott Bush doing business with them. Business for mucho profit, by the way, like the hallmark of capitalism.

And speaking of gas chambers? Plenty of hot air from the BCGOP, but I still prefer the Bronx Cheer for gas.

LOL, by democrat appointed judges. Kinda smells like ignoring the law and applying ideological standards to it instead. Which it is so you make sure to stop by Home Depot and pick up an illegal and hurry him on down to the polls. And then stop by another one, and another one, and another one.

Summer’s Eve, when the people start realizing that the elections are meaningless because their votes are cancelled out by those that shouldn’t be voting in the first place, it’s going to be explosive. But you keep telling us all how that be RACISSSSSSS lulz.

Lulz- Please enlighten us on how an illegal can vote and on what section of Home Depot do you pick one up? “When the people start realizing that the elections are meaningless because their votes are cancelled out by those that shouldn’t be voting in the first place” is that the definition of a feminine hygiene product? You sound just like Trump rambling incoherently and making things up as you go. Try to stay focused , use facts in your arguments and attempt to persuasive. Your ability to debate is on par with Trump.
