Man in custody after inciting terror with chainsaw at Raleigh hotel

A man accused of threatening others with a chainsaw at a Raleigh hotel on Saturday night is in custody.

RALEIGH, N.C. — A man accused of threatening others with a chainsaw at a Raleigh hotel is in custody.

Police have arrested Jacob Vanderburg, 27, in connection with the incident.

Police surrounded the Red Roof Inn on South Saunders Street after responding to a disturbance call on Saturday night at 9:15.

The man threatened several people, but no one was hurt. Police said the man used a chainsaw to menace victims. The man in question eventually left the hotel in what appeared to be a dark-colored sedan.

Security footage captured a glimpse of the man, who was wearing a dark green baseball cap, a long white coat, dark jeans, and white shoes.

Raleigh police are looking for the man responsible for walking into a hotel on Saturday night with a chainsaw and threatening people.

The motive surrounding the man's actions are not known.

Garner Police confirm with WRAL a chainsaw was stolen from an area Lowe’s Home Improvement store, and that storefront is boarded up as a result of a break-in.

Both Garner and Raleigh Police are working together on this investigation.

Vanderburg is charged with second degree kidnapping, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, going armed to the terror of the public, four counts of injury to real property, felony larceny of a firearm, and disorderly conduct.

Vanderburg is being held on $270,000 bond and his first court appearance is Monday at 2 p.m.
