Bus line owner sets record straight after 'Skyline News' says company bussed in protesters

JUNE 29, 2022 - The owner of Emma Bus Lines in Asheville, Rebecca Gregge (pictured), says her business is under fire and she wants to set the record straight after Chad Nesbitt of "Skyline News" inaccurately said in a Facebook live that the bus line was bussing in protesters for the "Abort the Supreme Court" march Friday, June 24 in downtown Asheville. Nesbitt later corrected the caption of the live video, but the video itself was still up on the Facebook page Wednesday, June 29. (Photo credit: WLOS staff)

The owner of Emma Bus Lines says her business is under fire after an inaccurate Facebook live video from Skyline News claimed the company was bussing in protesters for the Abort the Supreme Court March Friday, June 24.

During the live commentary, Chad Nesbitt didn't say the name of the bus company, but he did write that the buses were registered to Emma Bus Line.

Wednesday, June 29, Emma Bus Lines owner Rebecca Gregge and one bus driver told News 13 they were downtown for a scavenger hunt on Friday that was part of a field trip with a local camp.

They said Nesbitt's information was inaccurate, and now they worry this will impact the company and the safety of their drivers.

“We are an honest business," Gregge said. "We’ve never done anything like that. It's devastating to see somebody can spread a lie about you and not have to suffer the consequences. He’s already done the damage and I’m trying to repair it. It’s devastating to see somebody come in and do you like that."

“This wasn’t a political drive. We were just doing a normal day-to-day job. This had nothing to do with politics, but it took that swing online," said bus driver Karol Speight.

Nesbitt has issued a correction on his Facebook page, Skyline News, with Gregge's response.

News 13 has reached out to Nesbitt but has not heard back.
