Investigation underway after body found below Blue Ridge Parkway overlook

Authorities are investigating after a body was found near an overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

A press release from parkway officials says dispatchers received a report around 1:14 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 9 of a body being found near an overlook in the Blowing Rock area. Shortly after, rangers responded to the scene and found a deceased male below Yadkin Valley Overlook at Milepost 289.8.

Parkway officials say a cause of death is not yet known and that an investigation is underway, led by the National Park Service's Investigative Services Branch with assistance from the NC State Bureau of Investigation.
