A fire that started early Saturday morning at an assisted living facility in Brevard is out.

EIGHT FAMILIES DISPLACED AFTER MASSIVE EARLY MORNING APARTMENT FIRE, NO INJURIES REPORTED

Fire Chief Matthew Chase Owen with Connestee Fire Rescue reports crews from multiple agencies responded to a fire at 4:20 a.m. on Aug. 8 at Cedar Mountain House.

Staff at the assisted living facility had begun evacuating 35 total residents as crews arrived on scene. Fire crews conducted several more searches of the building.

Chief Owen reports the sprinkler system was activated around 4:26 a.m., which held the fire in a commercial gas dryer in the laundry room. The fire was extinguished shortly after.

HILLIARD AVENUE CONSTRUCTION SITE FIRE RULED ARSON

After further investigation, officials found the fire had originated in the commercial gas dryer due to "an unknown issue" in the laundry room.

A press release from Connestee Fire Rescue states Cedar Mountain residents were originally going to be moved to a different facility, but efforts by fire and maintenance crews made it possible for them to return to the building with precautions in place. Use of the laundry and service wing has been prohibited until necessary repairs can be made.

No injuries were reported during the incident. Cedar Mountain House has extra staff on duty Saturday to address safety concerns and cleanup efforts.
