More details released after man arrested following early morning shooting in Asheville

Asheville police have identified the man taken into custody early Sunday morning after a shooting downtown.

Police say 28-year-old Vadahl Penland was apprehended along College Street after shots were fired just after 2 a.m. along Lexington Avenue.

Vadahl is charged with resisting arrest, going armed to the terror of the public, discharging a firearm in the city and two counts of possession of drugs.

Police say the drugs are thought to be Fentanyl and Xanax.

They also recovered an AK-pistol.

Vadahl also had an existing warrant for possession of a concealed firearm not related to Sunday morning's shooting.

No one was injured in the shooting and police say the investigation is ongoing at this time.

Vadahls vehicle was seized and police say they will search the vehicle for evidence.
