(WLOS) – As of Saturday, May 23, 2020, North Carolina health officials say there have been a total of 22,725 lab-confirmed cases of the coronavirus in the state, that's up 1,107 from 21,618 on Friday, making it the highest one-day increase of positive cases so far. Additionally, the state reports 737 virus-related deaths, a total of 329,582 completed tests, and 589 hospitalized patients.

“This is a notable and concerning increase," said NCDHHS Secretary Mandy Cohen in Saturday's press release. "As we head into a holiday weekend, please practice the three Ws – wear a face covering, wait six feet apart, and wash your hands frequently. When it comes to our health, we need to work together to protect our families, friends and neighbors."

Additionally, the state reports 10% of total tests were positive among labs that report both negative and positive tests into the state electronic reporting system.

NCDHHS epidemiologists are analyzing the data to determine if there were any significant contributing factors.

State health officials said Monday there are 11,637 presumed recoveries in the state. Recoveries are updated on a weekly basis.
