Macon County Sheriff Robert Holland confirms with News 13, Christopher Prince, who was shot after he allegedly broke into his ex-wife's home early Wednesday morning and assaulted a sleeping male, has died from his injuries.

The victim, who has not been identified at this time, is listed in critical condition.

Authorities said Prince was taken to his former wife's home by an individual who did not stay.

During the execution of a search warrant, detectives reviewed surveillance video that showed Prince walking around the outside of the house several times before entering and exiting a room in the carport.

Detectives believe, after entering the home, Prince disconnected the DVR that had been connected to the home surveillance system.

Once inside the home, Prince is believed to have used a small knife to unlock and enter the bedroom occupied by his ex-wife and another man.

Holland said Prince entered the room, turned on the light and used a metal pipe to assault the man who was sleeping. Holland said the pipe was the handle of a large floor jack. A floor jack with a missing handle was found inside the room off the carport.

"The victim was struck multiple times about his body, including his head," Holland said.

According to statements from Prince’s former wife, it was following the initial assault that Prince then raised the pipe handle and moved in her direction.

"At this time, Prince’s former wife fired a small-caliber pistol, striking Prince at least once in the head," Holland said.

The woman told authorities she and her minor daughter immediately rendered aid to both injured men and called 911. The sheriff's office reported the woman made two calls to Macon County 911.

At the time of the assault, Prince was wanted by Henderson County for pending felony charges of first-degree burglary, authorities said. Prince was also being sought in Macon County since Monday evening after a domestic violence protection order was issued at the request of his former wife. Prince was being sought for service of that order.

"This investigation is still a very active investigation and, while we have released some preliminary findings, we remind the public that these are preliminary findings. Having provided this updated information, we will not release any additional information until a thorough investigation has been conducted and is complete," Holland said. "District Attorney Ashley Welch has been briefed throughout this investigation and will be provided the complete case file upon the conclusion. Following the district attorney's review of the case, she will make recommendations as to what possible criminal charges could be filed that are appropriate."

This is an ongoing investigation. Check back with wlos.com for updates.
