MEDICAL EMERGENCY CONTRIBUTED TO FATAL CRASH ON HENDERSONVILLE ROAD, POLICE SAY
Gary Thomas Clark, 73, of Morristown, Tennessee, was operating a 1954 Chevrolet when he failed to reduce speed and struck the vehicle in front of him.
Officials said CPR was performed on-scene by witnesses and first responders, and Clark was transported to Mission Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
There was no report of bad driving by Clark before the incident, and he was the driver at fault in the crash.
The road was closed near Exit 40 (NC 280) for about 1.5 hours, but heavy congestion on I-26 and surrounding roads remained for much of Sunday.
