Juvenile shot 5 times following fight in Asheville; investigation underway

Asheville authorities say a juvenile was shot five times Tuesday night.

In a press release, the Asheville Police Department said at approximately 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 15 the Asheville Police Department responded to a report of gunshots in the area of Scott Street.

As officers were arriving on the scene, they received information that a victim had been shot. The victim, a juvenile, was found to have suffered five gunshot wounds and received medical care immediately from officers and emergency medical personnel. The victim's injuries are fortunately believed to be non-life threatening.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a fight began in Walton Street Park, and led to the victim being chased by a suspect onto Scott Street, where they were shot. Officers and detectives have identified a person of interest. The investigation is ongoing.

Since January 1, 2020, the Asheville Police Department has responded to 425 calls for service for gun discharges and gunshot wounds. In addition, 32 victims have been shot in the City of Asheville during the same time period.
