Authorities are investigating a reported murder-suicide in Waynesville after two people were found dead early Tuesday morning.

Authorities say the two bodies were found on a property off Long and Francis Streets Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2020, just before 7 a.m.

Waynesville Police Department Interim Chief Brian Beck confirms with News 13, a call for assistance came in from along the 100 block of Long Street before 7 a.m. Tuesday morning, reporting an "emergency fall."

When authorities arrived they found two people dead, one person on the porch of the home and another in the yard. Authorities have confirmed, one of the victims lived in the home where the bodies were found. Beck does confirm a knife was involved in the incident.

Beck commented on the case, saying it was unique in a town like Waynesville.

"This is highly unusual for our community," said Beck. "We are a very nice, very quaint community. For something like this to happen, it’s devastating."

Based upon the evidence collected and witnesses that have been interviewed, police said they are confident that this incident is isolated to 136 Long Street.

Beck says police have interviewed the caller but have not said what information that individual provided.

At the time, there are no suspects and no arrests have been made. There is no active threat at this time, according to officials.

Neighbors in the area spoke with News 13, saying they couldn't believe what had happened.

"Really quiet, individual people, keep to themselves," Richard Marino, a neighbor, said. "It's just really a shock to be in this neighborhood."

"For something like this to have happened, it's unreal," neighbor Roger Call said. "It's just unbelievable."

Police said they are currently making contacts with the next of kin and will not be releasing names at this time.
