Authorities say a discarded cigarette may be to blame for a house fire early Thursday morning in Weaverville.

Crews say the fire on Lovin Road started on the porch of the home at around 6 a.m.

The home was fully involved when crews arrived.

There were three people inside the home at the time of the fire but, thankfully, they were all able to make it out safely through a back entrance.

Crews from Weaverville, Jupiter, Reems Creek, Mars Hill, Leicester, French Broad, Woodfin and West Buncombe all responded to the fire.

The Red Cross is assisting those living in the home.

For those in need of a new smoke alarm, all Buncombe County Fire Departments will come out and install alarms in your home, free of charge. All you need to do is contact your local fire department.
