Freak hailstorm pummels Brevard businesses

BREVARD, N.C. (WLOS) — Heavy hail damaged businesses in Brevard Tuesday.

At times, hail came down so hard, it looked more like snow.

Angie Nyberg watched it fall from inside her business.

“The hail was actually hitting our front window,” she said.

She works at Blue Ridge Bedding. It’s one of several businesses in the College Plaza strip.

“It was like out of nowhere, all of sudden, a freak storm,” added Nyberg.

Thankfully, the hail didn’t do any damage to her place, but that wasn’t the case next door.

“It went into our bathrooms and all throughout here, all the way into our kitchen,” said Kay Ori.

At Sunrise Cafe, Ori said it felt like the rush of water was never-ending.

“There’s still water coming up I think. It’s kinda hard to see,” she added. “I clean at night, so I’m staying to clean up the rest of it, and get it all done.”

A nearby tanning salon also spent hours cleaning up water damage.

Even after the storm passed, the hail continued piling up.

It’s a sight the business owners hope isn’t there when they return Wednesday.
