Associate Superintendent Trevor Putnam said the district’s insurance will pay some of the $12 million in damage caused by the flooding, but help from FEMA will be crucial.

“We have calculated the inventory and we're providing that to FEMA officials now, and from that they will provide us some type of reimbursement. How much, we don't know," Putnam said.

In order not to jeopardize FEMA reimbursement, Putnam said no work can begin without its approval. He said the district will know if help is coming from Raleigh once a state budget is passed.
