On Friday morning, Jan. 18th 2019, deputies in Henderson County apprehended a South Carolina man who led them on a high-speed chase through two counties before wrecking his vehicle and escaping on foot into a wooded area.

The driver was identified as 29-year-old Kyle McAbee of Greer, SC and located around 8 a.m. Friday near Roscoe's gas station in the Green River area of Henderson County.

McAbee is currently being held in the Henderson County Jail on a charge of resisting a public officer. He also has pending charges in Buncombe County, related to the chase.

A passenger, 21-year-old Christopher Boswell, also of Greer SC, is now in the Buncombe County Jail, charged with assaulting deputies with the pickup truck the two were in , as well as possession of drug paraphernalia.

Officials say the suspects rammed two Buncombe County Sheriff’s vehicles during the chase. No officers were harmed.

Authorities say the chase started near Airport Road in Buncombe County just before 2 a.m. when they tried to stop McAbee for an expired tag. He fled the scene in the vehicle, and authorities pursued.

McAbee kept going into Buncombe County along Sweeten Creek Road and I-40 before eventually getting back onto I-26 East.

The chase ended in Henderson County when McAbee wrecked on U.S.-25 near the South Carolina line.

Officials say the chase spanned almost 49 miles between the two counties, with speeds reaching up to 110 miles per hour on I-26.

Authorities initially used K-9 dogs to try to track McAbee.

Boswell was taken to the hospital to be checked out for minor injuries before being taken to jail.
