Buncombe Co. officials to offer free opioid overdose reversal trainings for public

Buncombe County will soon offer free monthly trainings for the public on how to reverse opioid overdoses.

'BEACON OF HOPE' FACING A CRISIS OF OVERDOSE DEATHS, LEADERS, ADVOCATES WORK TO SAVE LIVES

Starting Friday, June 2, Buncombe County Health and Human Services officials will provide hour-long trainings that will cover:

  • Information on opioid awareness
  • Preventing and responding to opioid overdoses
  • One free Narcan kit (while supplies last)
  • Linkage to community services for how to secure medication at home
  • Substance use support
  • Referral to medication assisted treatment program (MAT)
  • Harm reduction
  • Introduction to the post-overdose response team (PORT)

'HOPE NOT STIGMA:' THOSE IMPACTED BY OPIOID CRISIS JOIN FOR WNC DRUG AWARENESS EVENT

The trainings will be held from 12-1 p.m. on the first Friday of each month at the Buncombe County Health and Human Services building, located at 40 Coxe Avenue in Asheville, in the conference room located at the main entrance.

Attendees will receive free parking validation in the deck adjacent to the building.
