2 charged after stabbing, hours-long negotiation at Asheville apartment

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) – After approximately five-hours of negotiation, a male suspect has surrendered to Asheville police and voluntarily requested to be evaluated at the hospital following a morning negotiation.

Authorities say at approximately 3:40 a.m. on Wednesday, May 27, 2020, the Asheville Police Department received a report of a stabbing at 15 Woodfin Street.

Upon arrival officers located a victim suffering from life-threatening injuries as a result of stab wounds. The victim was transported to Mission Hospital for treatment. They are currently in critical condition.

After preliminary investigation APD identified a male suspect who was found barricaded in an apartment at 15 Woodfin Street. Asheville police cleared the surrounding apartments out of precaution.

The Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) was brought in to assist in safely bringing the suspect out of the apartment without further incident.

Just before 10 a.m. the suspect surrendered to authorities. Donald Eugene Lory, Jr., 54, has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and inflict serious injury.

Julia Crystal Cavaliere, 41, who was inside the apartment with Lory was charged with resist, delay, obstruct.
