ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — Police have released more information regarding the investigation into the death of a woman whose body was found in a wooded area of Asheville at the beginning of the year.
The remains of Rebecca Shular were discovered in a wooded area near Bleachery Blvd., Swannanoa River Rd. and River Ridge Dr. the afternoon of Jan. 5, 2022. Officials with the Asheville Police Department (APD) say Shular's death is being investigated as a homicide.

APD Captain Joe Silberman tells News 13 there are persons of interest in the case, but he did not elaborate on how many or any other specifics.
Police say after working with the medical examiner, it appears Shular suffered strangulation. That official cause of death will have to come from the medical examiner's report, which has not yet been released.
Silberman added that the investigation into Shular's death is active, ongoing and that authorities are working on it daily.
