U.S.-176 in Polk County remains closed from the Tryon Youth Center to Edney Road while crews continue to clean up following a deadly mudslide Friday.

Polk County Manager Marche Pittman says the rain last week left mud, tree limbs, rocks and even entire trees on the roadways in Polk County.

On Friday, a woman was killed after heavy overnight rains produced flash flooding and mudslides. The woman was trapped by her home after being separated from her husband during a mudslide.

At this time, only local traffic is allowed through the area and drivers are asked to please heed road closure signs, and listen to local law enforcement.

The N.C. Insurance Commissioner is expected to be in Polk County on Tuesday to assess the damage.

According to the NCDOT, US 176 and Holberts Cove Road are closed at this time.

In addition, Green River Cove Road is operating as a single lane due to damage sustained during flooding.

Roadways in Avery County also saw some damage from this weekend's storm.

A mudslide took chunks out a part of U.S. 221 near Grandfather Mountain.

The road is closed for repairs, and there's no word yet on when it will reopen.

Lake Lure police said Highway 64/74 has been closed because of a large culvert break around the address of 6088, just east of Riverside Village Motel.

Drivers are being asked to detour using Bills Creek.

DOT has not given any time frame for completion.
