Volunteers: The Foster Animal Network Needs You!

The first viable foster program in Asheville, we are wholly devoted to the placement of lost, stray, neglected and abandoned animals.  The Foster Animal Network started out helping many different animals, but is now cat specific due to a reduction in our volunteer force.  The Foster Animal Network has placed approximately 3000 animals over the past ten years, and is now faced with having to shut our doors.

We need foster homes, people to answer our voice mailbox from the comfort of their own home, and someone(s) to be an incharge person, preferably with some shelter or veterinary experience.  We come from all walks of life, young and old with one common bond, we care about saving animals lives. We use "foster homes" as temporary havens for neglected, abused, or stray animals, until they are placed into permanent homes.

Our foster parents provide a nurturing, loving, safe environment for the animal.  They are never caged or placed in a shelter facility. All animals the Foster Animal Network cares for will be seen by a veterinarian for proper health care, including leukemia and F.I.V. blood tests.  First inoculations and deworming are given to animals as well as spaying and neutering for those over six months of age.  All other medical needs are met as well.

As foster homes become available, the animal in need is placed with them.   All the food, litter, litter pans and supplies are provided by the network to the foster home. Finally, the foster parent places free ads in different papers with the animal's description and their phone number.  The Foster Animal Network also has a monthly spot on TV 13's "pet pals" segment, and we hold pet adoption days periodically. The foster parent does the "interviewing" with the prospective new pet owner, then a contract is signed, a fee secured and someone now has made a friend for life, guaranteed!

The Foster Animal Network is a nonprofit, tax exempt corporation. The network operates on adoption fees and donations, and has no paid employees.  We have served this community for many years and its time to give back, please help us by donating your time, money or both. First and foremost we need help answering our phone mailbox.  We are also in desperate need of foster homes.  If you have a spare room, or just want to integrate the animal into your living space, we need you!  The more foster homes we have, the more animals we can help.   This would be a great opportunity for our young at heart senior citizens, or "domestic goddesses".

If you can help in any way, call Sherry Richards at (828)684-4749, or our voice mailbox at (828)236-2287, or to send a donation:   The Foster Animal Network, 107 Church Road, Asheville, N.C. 28804.
