MTA will meet on Friday, June 18 at 5:30pm. Our host will be Carowinds . Please RSVP by
June 14th by calling 587-9023 before 5:00pm. There are by tradition no guest speakers at
this meeting so everyone will have plenty of time to enjoy the rides. Spend the day at
Carowinds and enjoy a time of fellowship at the end of the day.
Thanks go out this time to Theatre Charlotte and the cast of A Doll's House for a great
meeting in April. We also want to thank our panelists for a spirited discussion of the
state of Arts Education in our area.
What is the point of holding an MTA meeting if no one but the guest speakers show up? That
was the burning question at the last MTA EXCOMM meeting. Has MTA outlived its usefulness?
MTA has provided a variety of services to its members since its beginning in 1984: the bimontly newsletter, the website, the Production Duplication process, school play festivals, tickets to plays, and the Constance Welsh Scholarship fund.
But what has MTA done for me today? At the Carowinds meeting the EXCOMM would like you to answer that question. Should MTA disband? Should MTA restructure? Come to the June meeting and express your pleasure or displeasure with all things MTA. Be part of the process. Do we really want 15 years of this organization to end with a whimper? Or do you want to help MTA survive into the new century? It's up to you.
It's time to elect a new slate of officers for the next year. No names have been put forth
for next year. Come to the June meeting and nominate and elect your officers.
Got a suggestion for nominees? Call Candace Sorensen at Theatre Charlotte at 376-3777
and nominate someone or yourself.
It's time to renew your MTA membership. Contact Joanna Smith and she'll get you a renewal form. ASAP. MTA membership is one of the best theatre deals in the area. Not only do you get this "cool" newsletter but your dues pay for tickets to up to four area productions each year. Talk about a baragin!
I just wanted to let you know that the link from America OnLine to AmericanTheater Web became active as of May 19. Of course I'm exceptionally pleased to be on AOL's Influence Arts & Leisure Page (keyword: theater).
This alliance means that AmericanTheater Web will need to continue to expand in the coming months, and I hope that you will let me know how the site can better serve your organization.
Sincerely,
Andrew Propst

Here's a big MTA "Break a Leg" to Theatre Charlotte as they take their
production of Death of A Salesman to the national AACT Fest in Memphis this June. So
everyone keep your fingers crossed for Daina Giesler and her cast. Maybe by the next
newsletter we'll be urging them on to the international level.
The Executive Committee of MTA is always looking for new program ideas for our
meetings. Got any suggestions? Contact Keith Martin or any board member with your ideas.
MTA is a service organization. It can only fulfill that function if you the membership let
your needs be known.
...your living room sofa spends more time on stage than you do.
...you've appeared onstage wearing your own clothes.
...you've ever menaced anyone with a gun held together with electrical tape.
...you've ever played the father of someone your father's age.
...your kids know your lines better than you do.
...your kids DELIVER your lines better than you do.
...you've ever appeared onstage with people you're related to.
...you've ever said, "Don't worry- we'll just hot glue it."
Don't see your season in the MTA Calendar? Then send in your season schedules to Keith Martin and Tom Hollis as soon as possible. Keith will enter them in the Production Duplication database and Tom will include them in the Callboard and see that they are posted on the web. Remember you must send it in twice. Sending it only to Keith or Tom will not get the information to the other.
