Agriculture brings $18.6 Million Income A Year to Residents

More than 500 families are raising cattle in the county. More than 1,500 people grow tobacco. When you add in Christmas tree farmers and nursery owners, the trout farmers and the growers of other livestock, the total annual gross income to the county comes close to $19 million.

Agriculture is the traditional backbone of the economy in the county and reflects the heritage of the small family enterprise.

Every Saturday morning (April-October) from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm you can find farmers and growers from all over Madison County at Farmer's Market of Madison County in Mars Hill.
