"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world, indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." Margaret Mead We come together as a community in many ways to share the gifts of our talents, our concerns, and our love. The people of Madison County work together to build a stronger, healthier, safer community in many ways. For example, there is a hard-working and committed staff and volunteers in Mars Hill that runs Mountin' Hopes, which offers therapeutic horseback riding to the people of Madison, Yancey, and Buncombe counties and adjacent areas of Western North Carolina. Saddling up a horse is an enjoyable experience for many people, and for an individual with a disability it can signify much more - a road to recovery. Each year, people with physical, cognitive, and/or emotional disabilities are discovering the benefits of therapeutic horseback riding. Physicians and therapists (physical, occupational, and recreational) agree that much can be accomplished through a therapeutic riding program. Be sure to visit their website!
