Cable Cove Recreation Area

Directions: The Cable Cove Recreation Area is located about 15¼ miles from Robbinsville in the northwest part of Graham County, about 3 miles from the Fontana Dam. From Robbinsville, travel 9.2 miles East on State Highway 143 until you reach the junction with Highway 28. Turn left at the stop sign and go North on Highway 28 for approximately 6½ miles to the entrance road for Cable Cove Recreation Area.

  • Use Guide: The Cable Cove Recreations Area is available for boating, camping, hiking, fishing, and picnicking. There are 26 camping units and low volume flush toilet facilities, drinking water, boat trailer and camping trailer parking spaces.
  • Description: Cable Cove is an excellent facility for water sports. About 1½ miles from the highway is the boat access area for Fontana Lake. Boating, canoeing, fishing, water skiing, and jetskiing are all available from this access point. Fontana Lake provides a variety of landscapes and remote areas for fishing and boating pleasure.

    The campground is about 1 mile from the entrance and is set in a well wooded area next to a stream. Each of the 26 camping sites has its own parking area, a picnic table and a grill. The sites are spread over a large area with good connecting service roads.

    The School House picnic area is located just before the the boat ramp. This is a small picnic area with several well shaded tables and grills next to a running stream.
