Adopting a mature pet not only gives older animals a second chance, it often means introducing them to your family will be much easier.
When you adopt, you save a loving animal by making them part of your life and open up shelter space for another animal in need.
Valley River Humane Society is a non-profit volunteer organization with the primary goal of reducing the number of homeless animals in our community. Founded in 1969 as the Cherokee Humane Society, and located on county property at the old landfill on Fairview Road in Marble, NC, VRHS received $250,000 from the estate of Lillian Clifford in 1997, which allowed us to purchase 12.5 acres in Marble, off Hwy 74 and build the present NO-KILL Shelter facility.
VRHS is staffed by caring individuals and volunteers dedicated to helping orphaned animals find forever homes. We take in about 2000 homeless pets and strays every year, split about equally between dogs and cats. Many are adopted locally, and where possible, some of our dogs are transported to other renowned humane societies for adoption in the Northeast.
We invite you to visit our facility and see for yourself the result of the hard work by our staff and volunteers. Consider becoming a member of VRHS and share in our goals of driving greater animal adoptions, promoting spay & neuter practices, advocating for sensible animal control policies, and providing a safe and healthy environment for stray and abandoned animals.
Remember, the VRHS is a non-profit organization under section 501(C) (3) so that your DONATIONS can be tax-deductible.
