MTA Triathlon & Duathlon at Lake James
The McDowell Trail Association is pleased to host the 7th Annual MTA Triathlon at Lake James on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at the Paddy's Creek Section of Lake James State Park. Lake James was just named the North Carolina state Park of the Year for 2014.
The triathlon consists of a 750 meter swim, 22 mile road bike and 5K trail run, while the duathlon has a 5k mile trail run, 22 mile road bike and 5K trail run.
The venue is breathtaking, with views of Lake James visible from almost everywhere on the course. Whether you're a seasoned veteran or new to the multisport experience, this is a must-do event.
The race will be sanctioned by USA Triathlon and professionally managed by Glory Hound Events.

Directions to Paddy’s Creek Section of Lake James State Park
I 40-Exit 90 Nebo
Take exit 90.
Turn right on Fairview Rd about 2.8 miles to Hwy 70.
Turn right onto Hwy 70 for .7 miles.
Turn left onto Hwy 126. Follow 126 about 5.5 miles to Paddy’s Creek Section on right.
I40 Exit 94 – Dysartsville
If coming from the west, turn left and cross over I 40, go .5 miles to Hwy 70.
If coming from the east, turn right, and go about .5 miles to Hwy 70
Turn left on Hwy 70 go about 2 miles turn right onto Bridgewater. Go 1.2 miles on Bridgewater and turn left onto Benfield Landing . Go about 2 miles. Turn right on Hwy 126, go .7 miles to park entrance on the right.
